At Petham we follow the Kent Science schemes of work in order to ensure consistent progression and coverage. Due to our mixed classes we cover these in a two year rolling cycle, to avoid repetition. However, as children progress through the primary school key topics, such as materials, or environment, are revisited in order to develop knowledge and skills.
Science Weeks are held, in order to link Science to other curriculum areas, especially Maths and English. There is a focus on developing scientific skills, such as observation, categorisation, measuring data, planning a fair investigation and reviewing evidence.
Being situated in a rural location surrounded by farmland, we also make the use of our extensive outside area and growing space to ensure that learning also happens outside the classroom.
